Nourishing Free Range Chicken Bone Broth

Learn to make this liquid gold that will help your gut, immune, skin and health all round

I discovered Nourishing Free Range Chicken Bone Broth about 10 years ago. My Dad had bowel cancer and it was the only way I could help him each week offering nutritious broth packed with micro nutrients to help him heal. I then moved into more research as to why all of us should be drinking this liquid gold every day (or most days).

I always cook the broth with a whole free range chicken. It offers an element of comfort which I don’t find in cooking with beef. Totally up to you, but I feel this option smells like old men’s feet and makes my stomach gurgle!

  • It improves gut health and heals gut lining
  • Improves vision, brain health, cardiovascular heath, and kidney and liver function
  • Boosts immunity
  • Contains collagen, keratin, amino acids, calcium, glucosamine, and glycine
  • Helps skin retain moisture
  • Aids in detoxing your body of heavy metals

Ingredients

  • WHOLE FREE RANGE CHICKEN: Must be free range
  • ONION: Sliced with the skin on
  • SILVERBEET: The whole lot in the pot!
  • GARLIC: An added bonus for your immune
  • SEA SALT: The taste of salt will evolve as you cook over the hours, always best to start of slow in adding salt
  • CARROT: No need to peel, just throw it in!
  • CELERY: Cut off the bulb and slice the stems. I love to also add the leaves

Instructions

  1. Let’s get cooking! Place a large pot of water on the stove top and bring to a simmer
  2. Add all ingredients as they are and let the magic happen. Add a good pinch of salt to start, then add every half an hour until you are happy with the balance of flavours
  3. Cook for 6 hours on a low heat. Once cooked, remove the chicken and pull away the meat/veggies to enjoy separately (I love to make a pasta sauce or a chicken pie)
  4. Allow the broth to cool. Store in the fridge and freezer to enjoy 1 cup a day before you start your morning.

Tips And Tricks

Can I make a stock pile of broth?

Absolutely! Keep it in the freezer

How long can I freeze the broth?

Up to 4 months

Can I add ginger or chilli to the ingredients?

Great idea! A little spice and ginger is a delicious alternative to the traditional broth and will help with colds in the winter seasons
