Gluten Free Pretzels are never around when you want one! I would watch my family in Germany bite into the soft chewy texture and crave just one bite. Through my frustration, I came back to my kitchen and started playing with recipes to create a gluten free version. It was not as hard as I thought and the smell, oh my goodness!!!! Be warned you may eat the whole tray!

Ingredients

  • Gluten Free Flour with Xanthan Gum: Or if easier, a gluten free bread mixture will work just as nicely
  • Baking Powder: Not soda!
  • Greek Yoghurt Oh so creamy!
  • Baking Soda: For boiling
  • Coase salt or Sea Salt : Completion!

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix the gluten-free flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add yogurt and stir until a dough forms. Knead gently on a floured surface until smooth.
  4. Divide dough into 4–6 pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and shape into a pretzel.
  5. In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on the baking sheet.
  6. Sprinkle pretzels with coarse salt and brush with melted butter if desired.
  7. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Cool slightly and enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any particular gluten free flour?

Just your plain gluten free flour with the xanthan. If you buy these seperatly, add 1/2 teaspoon per cup

Can I add flavours to the mixture?

Cinnamon would be delicious!!

Can I freeze the dough?

Definitely! A good idea to make a big batch whilst you are messy in your kitchen!
