I love this recipe because its the ultimate healthy comfort food. You can eliminate the dairy and replace with coconut cream if preferred!
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make this easy dinner. No stress required!
Fish Fillets: Any fish fillet with no bones. Chunky fish is best! If frozen, allow to defrost before making the pie, otherwise there will be too much liquid
Cream: Full thick cream – yum!
Garlic & Onion:: Of course!
Lemon: Fresh and juicy
Butter: A touch for your creamy sauce and the rest of your mash
White Potato: I never peel my potatoes! Too much work. Just chop them up for boiling
Milk:: Any type of milk you prefer
Mozzarella: A sprinkle on top brings this pie together with a creamy finish
Gluten Free Flour: A tablespoon
Peas and Beans: A cup of each to add to the fish base
Instructions
It is our secret of the simplicity!
In large pot of water, add the potatoes to boil until soft.
Preheat the oven 180c.
In a large baking dish, layer the fish fillets. You can chop into chunks or leave whole. Either way, when cooked, the fish will gently break up for easy serving
Add the garlic, onion, peas and beans. Season.
In a frypan, add 2 tablespoons of butter. Melt. Then add 4 tablespoons of flour. Mix until combined (it will look like playdough). Then add slowly one cup of milk and stir to combine. You will create a white sauce. Add one handlful of cheese. Take off the heat and stir until well combined. Pour over the fish.
Mash the cooked potatoes. Add 1 knob of butter, 1 cup of cream and 1 handful of cheese. Stir to combine. Season. Top the mash over the fish. You can add any leftover cheese. Bake for 30 minutes. Delish!
Frequently Asked Questions
Could I freeze any leftovers?
A great idea! I would suggest freezing in containers for individual serves. Easier to defrost and enjoy.
Can I add veggies to the dish?
Absolutely! Grate your veggies in as you don’t want chunks!
Can I choose dairy free?
Of course! Almond milk – coconut milk – delish! For the white sauce, skip this part as there is no substitute for the butter.
