Simple Pea & Ham Soup

Create this delicious healthy, gluten free cake with a smile of achievement!

Simple Pea & Ham Soup is so much more! Every Christmas we keep our Ham Bone and freeze to cook our first Winter Simple Pea & Ham Soup. I love the fact that it reminds me of Christmas and love that is keeps giving in goodness. I love to add extra green veg, especially broccoli and spinach. The ham bone meat falls away beautifully as it cooks for hours on the stove top.

There is not much more effort required for this soup that is the ultimate comfort food. I love to eat this soup with a slice of gluten free bread with thick butter and a dash of chilli. I would recommend cooking this on a day that you are home to allow the flavours to develop over a couple of hours. You will be amazed at how the dried split peas create a thickness of green over the cooking time. Start this tradition in your family, its the best!

Enjoy this cheats meal!

  2. In the pot, add the garlic, onion, carrot, brocolli, ham bone, split peas, stock and pinch of salt. Bring to boil. Then simmer.
  3. Leave the soup to cook for an hour
  4. Once cooked, remove the ham bone and pull the meat away, chop into smaller pieces and add back to the pot. Season with salt and pepper
  5. Told you it is easy!

Can I add veggies to the soup?

Of course! Throw whatever you have in for extra fibre and flavour.

Do I need to cook the soup for an hour ?

It is usually cooked slowly to create a naturally thick soup with the ingredients. To rush this recipe, would add no benefit

Can I add other legumes?

Absolutely! Chuck it all in!
